چکیده

The slow motion of a self-gravitating CP 1 lump is investigated in the approximation of geodesic flow on the moduli space of unit degree static solutions M1. It is found that moduli which are frozen in the absence of gravity, parametrizing the lump’s width and internal orientation, may vary once gravitational effects are included. If gravitational coupling is sufficiently strong, the presence of the lump compactifies physical space, and the moduli determining the boundary value of the CP 1 field thaw also. Explicit formulae for the metric on M1 are found in both the weak and strong coupling regimes. The geodesic problem for weak coupling is studied in detail, and it is shown that M1 is geodesically incomplete. This leads to the prediction that self-gravitating lumps are unstable.

The topology and geometry of the moduli space, M2, of degree 2 static solutions of the CP 1 model on a torus (spacetime T 2 × R) are studied. It is proved that M2 is homeomorphic to the left coset space G/G0 where G is a certain eight-dimensional noncompact Lie group and G0 is a discrete subgroup of order 4. Low energy two-lump dynamics is approximated by geodesic motion on M2 with respect to a...

Low-energy dynamics of a CP 1 lump on the sphere

Low-energy dynamics in the unit-charge sector of the CP 1 model on spherical space (space-time S × R) is treated in the approximation of geodesic motion on the moduli space of static solutions, a sixdimensional manifold with non-trivial topology and metric. The structure of the induced metric is restricted by consideration of the isometry group inherited from global symmetries of the full field...

Non-Abelian Vortices at Weak and Strong Coupling in Mass Deformed ABJM Theory

We find half-BPS vortex solitons, at both weak and strong coupling, in the N = 6 supersymmetric mass deformation of ABJM theory with U(N) × U(N) gauge symmetry and Chern-Simons level k. The strong coupling gravity dual is obtained by performing a Zk quotient of the N = 8 supersymmetric eleven dimensional supergravity background of Lin, Lunin and Maldacena corresponding to the mass deformed M2-b...
